Abstract
An overview is given of the models implemented in FLUKA which describe the production of radionuclides. Cross sections are calculated for hadron-induced reactions on materials used in the construction of accelerators from threshold up to energies of several TeV. The results form a database which is validated against experimental data. Dedicated activation measurements performed at an high-energy hadron accelerator complement the verification and confirm the accuracy of the FLUKA predictions. Finally, the importance of such a database is underlined with examples from radiological studies performed for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
